SUMMARY

A 12-month study was carried in with 51 patients to evaluate disposable contact lenses fitting. Patients replaced the lenses once a week. Three patients discontinued contact lens wear due to complications. one of these being immunological corneal infiltrates. Eleven cases presented ocular complications that caused temporary interruption of the use of the lenses. Thirteen patients were excluded from the study: seven for not showing up for control exams. five for moving to another city and the other for facial paralysis with lagophtalmus. Within the scope of this study, disposable contact lens fitting, visual acuity and safety were considered satisfactory. The strict selection and orientation of patients and a regular post-fitting control program (quarterly) are recommended.
