Summary

The purpose of the review was to present the personal point of view of the Author on the Concept of Chronic Simple Glaucoma as a result of an extensive bibliographic study. It is to be mentionned that the main concept of disease is not anymore pressure-dependent as it used to be some years ago. There is a strong tendency at the present time to stress the importance of the glaucomatous damage of the optic nerve and visual fields as fundamental points for the definition and treatment of the disease.
